Battle Round 2

Today was a success for the Red Corsairs. They achieved their first crushing victory (yay... i mean WHAHAHAHA). The game was against a tank heavy imperial guard army (death korps), my armylist in preperation for tournament play catering for all types of armies from; bike heavy, infantry heavy, tank heavy, and the all rounded armies.
What i found from todays game:
  • Huron is perfect for tank hunting. start him with a squad in a rhino, get night and close then let him pounce on the tank and let the unit do what they please. He can also come in handy for assaults but him always having to issue a challenge can be a letdown when he is guaranteed to only get 1 kill (and hope for the opponent to decline the challenge).
  • Vindicators are pretty resilliant, keep them around the 20"-24" range from enemy vehicles and all good.
  • Havok launchers come in handy against light vehicles and a mob of infantry, but dont expect too much out of them.
  • The possessed are a good well rounded unit for close combat. They could either take on a unit or attempt to take out a tank with their strength 5 attacks. You'll most likely get a glancing and take a hull point or 2 out.
  • Chaos Cultists, just stick them behind cover near an objective and then when the timing is right move them out to take it. easy as that, but you have to keep the out of sight is the challenging part.
Things i would change:
  • Chaos marine squads to incorporate a missile launcher and either flamer or meltagun. The flamer seems more appropreate as it has more probability of killing more, the meltagun ends up being either a hit or miss (mostly occuring in a miss). The other thing would be to give the aspiring champion in the unit a power weapon and chaos mutation (the ironic possibility of having an asipring champion getting eternal warrior or the ultimate daemon prince is too tempting).
  • changing the chosen weapons (the dark vengeance equipment is ok, but not suitable for my game style).
On the modelling side of things, I have had some more progress with a rhino coming along nicely and another marine (when i get some good lighting ill take more photos to post up). Slow progress is still good progress.

Lately i have been considering if i should bulk out the army with some allies. I really like the Chaos Daemons Soul Grinder, its a great looking model and i think it would perform quite well with my Red Corsairs. If i was to go with some daemon allies i would mostly consider a Tzeench army with a lite fluf something like:
The Lord of Change has appeared in the Maelstorm in order to alter the fate of Huron Blackheart and ultimately convert him to worship Tzeench, not knowing that Huron has no intention to worship a god. (still a working progress)

Well i'll leave it at that today,
The count as of now is:
Win = 1
Loss = 0
Draw = 1

Going strong Huron!!!!

Huron Claims his title once again

Well it has been a long time since my last post, I will try keep this more up-to-date from now.

The new Chaos Space Marines Codex has brought the Red Corsairs out once again to raid upon anything silly enough to pass through the Maelstorm. The new codex gave the well needed balance back into Chaos and brought soem new additions.

As the Red Corsairs Stand right now (they have changed slightly since last time):
  • Huron Blackheart - Who has gotten alot better in the new codex. That Tyrant's Claw is much more suitable now for shredding anything from troops (dont try beating terminators hes only AP3) to tanks. His new profile picture is looking good.

  • Chaos Cultists Squad - A new addition which suits the Red Corsairs overal theme. But they are not anything too specail in game, keep the close to objectives and out of sight. And hope that the cultist champion can survive a round of close combat in a challenge to possibly transform into a daemon prince.
  • 2 Chaos Vindicators - Still pretty much the same, just with the addition of the vehicle wargear like daemonic possession and warpflame gargoyles.
  • Chaos Space Marine Squad - Nothing much changed here, only the addition of the champion being stupid enough to challenge anything walking his path.
  • Chosen - These bring alot of different options, kitting out a chosen squad and keeping the points down can be a challenge. Choose wisely!!!!
  • Possessed - I never really considered chosen in the previous eddition because they were too risky and random. Now alot of the risk has been removed and they are a more reliable option, they are moer like marines on steroids. To top it off; the possibility of getting a daemon prince out of the champion makes them more of an enjoyable option.
  • Rhinos - I have always used rhinos as transport and now in 6th eddition they are more reliable and durable, so i will be spaming rhinos everywhere. With the addition of setting units on fire from the havok launchers makes it more enjoyable.
I have played one game with my Red Corsairs since the release of the new codex, a 1000pts game against a Orc herd (litterally a herd of 90 odd orcs running my way). When you looked at the table and deployment, the orcs out number the Red Corsairs atleast 3-1. But what the pesky orcs did not consider was 2 heavy hitting Vindicators facing in their direction. The game ended in a draw on turn 5 with both of us scoring 4 victory points each. I was supprised at Huron and how easy he carved down a deff dread with his tyrant's claw. And with the miracle possessed champion transforming into a daemon prince with +1 toughness and shred, he made cutting through orcs look like there was no tomorrow (well for those orcs there was no tomorrow). The outcome of the game was pleasing by me, but alittle dissapointing for the 2 vindicators at the end of the game, they both were in full working condition and taking no damage what-so-ever.

In other news a group of my friends and I are planing to run a small campaign, this will be a goo opportunity for the Red Corsairs to show their new found strength and recruit some more slaves to Huron's cause.

Now for the modelling side of things. Only recently have I started painting models again, now i remember why I like this game so much. Making your army come to life is very pleaseing, even tho I have not painted much (Huron, 2 chosen and half a rhino). I plan to progress slowly in order to paint them to a good standard i am happy with. Some photos of the models will soon come as they finish.
I am still planing on what how to model/ paint the basic marine troops with either:
  • Different Chaper Marines with a red cross through their heraldry. Chapters from which have been documented turning to huron or,
  • Just standard red for Red Corsair style.
Game Tally: I thought of keeping  tally of Huron's success and failure since the new codex has come out. Lets see how it goes.
  • Win = 0
  • Loss = 0
  • Draw = 1
